knowing this changed my perspective on life

People can only understand you to the extent they understand themselves. Sometimes, for the sake of your peace of mind, it’s best to set aside your ego, agree to disagree, and walk away.

It’s exhausting having to explain yourself and why you are the way you are.

Growing up in traditional Thai culture, where self-expression can be seen as “too much” and rather aggressive, especially coming from a young person speaking to an adult, I struggled massively with the relationship I have with my father. Given my natural tendency to voice my opinions, express my feelings, and my father’s strong belief that ‘depression’ doesn’t exist, I often felt misunderstood.

After spending almost 30 years never feeling seen or heard, or having a sense of belonging, RTT has taught me to set my ego aside and recognise when it’s time to stop explaining myself and walk away.

In the process of freeing myself from childhood trauma and the burden of wanting to be seen, heard and understood by my father, I’ve learned to give myself the validation I always needed, knowing that it’s never too late–and that it’s possible–to parent my own inner child.

And that’s how it changed my perspective on life, how I heal myself, and the way I move forward.
